Time Calculator — Tips & Guide

Calculate the exact duration between two times in hours, minutes, and seconds. Perfect for tracking work hours, shift lengths, meeting durations, and workout times.

Track Daily Work Hours

Enter your clock-in and clock-out times to see exactly how many hours you worked. Useful for freelancers tracking billable hours or employees verifying their timesheet.

Calculate Shift Lengths

Enter shift start and end times to verify shift durations for scheduling, payroll, and overtime calculations. Works for any shift within a 24-hour period.

Measure Workout Duration

Enter your gym start and end time to see exactly how long you trained. Track this over multiple sessions to monitor whether your workout duration is consistent.

Plan Meeting Agendas

Use the time calculator to verify that your meeting agenda fits the allotted time. Add up individual agenda item durations to ensure they total less than the meeting length.

Use 24-Hour Format for Accuracy

This calculator uses 24-hour (military) time format to avoid AM/PM confusion. 1:00 PM = 13:00. This prevents errors when calculating times that cross midday.

Convert Results to Decimal Hours

To convert minutes to decimal hours for billing: divide minutes by 60. 90 minutes = 1.5 hours, 45 minutes = 0.75 hours. Multiply decimal hours by your hourly rate for billing amounts.

To add times, enter the start time and end time and the calculator shows the total duration. For adding multiple durations together (e.g., several work sessions), calculate each pair and note the total minutes, then add them manually. For example: 1h 30m + 2h 45m = 4h 15m. Convert to total minutes first (90 + 165 = 255 minutes), then convert back: 255 ÷ 60 = 4 hours, 15 minutes.

Multiply hours by 60 to convert to minutes. 1 hour = 60 minutes, 1.5 hours = 90 minutes, 2.25 hours = 135 minutes. To convert minutes to hours, divide by 60. 150 minutes ÷ 60 = 2.5 hours. For hours and minutes combined: multiply the hours by 60 and add the remaining minutes — 3 hours 20 minutes = (3 × 60) + 20 = 200 minutes total.

The 12-hour clock uses AM (ante meridiem, before noon) and PM (post meridiem, after noon) with hours running 1–12 twice daily. The 24-hour clock (military time) runs from 00:00 (midnight) to 23:59, with no AM/PM ambiguity. 3:00 PM = 15:00, 11:30 PM = 23:30, midnight = 00:00. The 24-hour format is standard in healthcare, military, aviation, and most countries outside the US and UK.

Enter your start time (e.g., 09:00) and end time (e.g., 17:30) to get the total duration. If you have an unpaid break, calculate the break duration separately and subtract it from the total. For example: 09:00–17:30 = 8.5 hours, minus a 30-minute lunch = 8 hours billable. Multiply billable hours by your hourly rate for total pay.
